Veterinary Nurse | Massey Vets

New Zealand's only Veterinary Teaching Hospital has a Veterinary Nurse position available within the Companion Animal Hospital. At Massey Vets, you can gain valuable experience in a supportive environment and obtain considerable growth for your career.

We are seeking applications from either qualified veterinary nurses or veterinary technologists to work primarily in our Radiology department while also having the flexibility to use their nursing skills throughout the hospital.

This position is fixed term, 22.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday until mid-December 2026, covering parental leave. It is based on the Manawatū campus in Palmerston North.

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi - About the role
Our radiology/imaging service provides a dynamic and rewarding environment, with a wide range of cases requiring digital radiography and advanced imaging techniques such as ultrasound, CT, and fluoroscopy.

In this role, you will assist with all aspects of imaging procedures and play a key part in supporting the delivery of high-quality diagnostic services. You will be part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team and contribute to the teaching and support of BVSc students as they develop their clinical skills.

In addition to your work within radiology, you will also utilise your nursing expertise to assist with referral service patients, supporting treatments and procedures, and maintaining your hands-on clinical nursing skills.

Massey Vets provides 24/7 emergency critical care, along with community practice and referral clinics. This leads to a both challenging and extremely rewarding work environment.

Massey's Vet Hospital is patient-focused, with friendly, passionate staff in a facility that offers comprehensive veterinary expertise and learning experiences (for you as well as our students!). We are the only 24-hour pet emergency centre in the central North Island, so at times we have a high caseload, and our patients require an exceptional level of nursing care.

Mōu - About you

  • You are a passionate and motivated veterinary nurse who thrives in a collaborative, high-performing clinical environment. You take pride in delivering exceptional patient care and bringing strong technical skills to support veterinarians and fellow nurses as part of a dedicated nursing team.
  • You're an excellent communicator, confident, proactive, and keen to keep building on your core veterinary nursing skill set. Above all, you share our commitment to achieving the best possible outcomes for our patients and their owners.
  • This role offers exciting opportunities to grow your skills across multiple areas of the Companion Animal Hospital. If you enjoy variety and value professional development, your flexibility and willingness to work in different clinical areas will be highly valued.
  • As a member of Massey Vets, you'll also play an important role in supporting and teaching Bachelor of Veterinary Science students - contributing to the next generation of veterinarians while working in a well-respected teaching hospital environment.

You will have:

  • Veterinary Nursing qualification, diploma or above.
  • Ideally a minimum of two years' experience within veterinary companion animal practice; consideration will be given to new graduates of BVT or DVN programmes.
  • Natural empathy toward the cultural, emotional, and physical state of our clients and patients alike.
  • A positive, enthusiastic team member.
  • Eligibility to work in New Zealand.

Days and shift times will be negotiated with the successful candidate in line with hospital service needs but will fall within 8.00am - 5.00pm, Monday to Friday.
